Although Davis County justice courts have jurisdiction to hear misdemeanor cases, a charge of distribution of a controlled substance is considered a felony charge which can only be heard at the district court level.Depending on the specific circumstances of the case, a charge of distribution of a controlled substance can range from the third degree felony level (punishable by 0-5 years in prison) all the way to the first degree felony level (punishable by five years to life in prison).
