Provo Criminal Defense Lawyer - Utah County

Criminal cases in Provo, Utah can be handled through two different systems, depending on the level of the offense.

The Provo City Justice Court has jurisdiction over infractions, class C misdemeanors, and class C misdemeanors.  Prosecutions in the Provo City Justice Court are typically handled by the Provo City Prosecutor.  Although city prosecutors may handle cases up to the class A misdemeanor level, class A charges must be filed in the district court.

The Provo District Court (part of the Utah Fourth District) has general jurisdiction over all criminal charges, ranging from infractions to capital felonies.  Felony prosecutions and some misdemeanor prosecutions in the district court are handled by prosecutors from the Utah County Attorney's office.

If you are facing criminal prosecution in Provo or elsewhere in Utah, an experienced criminal defense attorney can make all the difference.  Stephen Howard has successfully defended thousands of criminal cases during his career.  His track record includes dismissals and not guilty verdicts on charges ranging from DUI to aggravated robbery.  His skills as a trial attorney and negotiator have secured misdemeanor resolutions for clients facing charges as serious as homicide and aggravated burglary.  With offices centrally located in Salt Lake City, Stephen Howard is pleased to serve clients throughout Utah.
